The idea behind this here publication is to share bits of ecological design, ecopsychology, permaculture, DIY projects, home improvements, life hacks, and maybe even some philosophy in order to help folks make gradual changes for the betterment of their own lives, their communities, and the planet.
There's so much doom-and-gloom, and way too many "green products" out there, but not a whole lot of suggestions or ideas for making positive lifestyle changes that don't depend on purchasing a corresponding product. Let's change that!
What's up with the name?
The "Zone Zero" name refers to the practice of Zone and Sector Analysis, which is used in permaculture to generate whole system designs. Site plans are designed with zones, from 1 to 5, where Zone 1 is a highly-managed area nearest to the house, and Zone 5 is wild land.
"Zone Zero" then is the core of the design - us, and our homes - and also includes how we live, think, feel, and communicate.
A healthy Zone Zero is essential to creating a successful and sustainable system around us, whether that system is a garden, a household, a community, or a country. The hope is that the information shared with you here will provide the inspiration to make positive changes in how you live.
